At the turn of this century the Insurers Financial Group (IFG) was borne from the merger of two venerable Canadian Insurance Brokerages - W.T. McMullen and The Insurers Inc. Both companies shared an outstanding level of commitment to client satisfaction and brought with them a vast accumulation of experience in every aspect of the insurance industry.
W.T.McMullen and The Insurers always acted with integrity and respect. Both companies were keen to innovate and quick to act - attributes which contributed significantly to their success. Taking these four core ideas - integrity, respect, innovation and action -we adopted these ideals as the founding principles for our newly emerging company. We're proud to be building IFG on the sturdy foundations of W.T.McMullen and The Insurers.
W.T. McMullen
Wayne T. McMullen purchased the brokerage of Conasco-Bonham in 1982. Back then it was a modest business serving 2,000 businesses and households in and around the Don Mills region. By recognizing that a energetic commitment to client satisfaction was the bedrock of good business, Wayne McMullen was soon able to expand. A series of mergers and acquisitions expanded the operation to 60 insurance professionals serving their clients from three metro Toronto offices. Through the Nineties, the senior management and sales team continued to adapt W.T. McMullen to emerging industry trends and were successful in forging strong working relationships with the leading North American and London based insurance companies.
As one of the cornerstones of IFG, W.T. McMullen brought with them a variety of clients ranging from multi-national organizations, manufacturers, consultants, franchisors, contractors and transportation operations to hot dog vendors. In 1999, A Michael Freedman who had been with W.T. McMullen since 1995 formed a partnership with Stephen Hale and Christopher Mildon of The Insurers to purchase the shares of the W.T. McMullen Group of Companies. With 22,000 clients and $28,000,000 in annual premium volume, W.T. McMullen created a sturdy legacy of success. A handsome reward for recognizing the importance and value of treating every client with honesty and integrity.
The Insurers Inc.
Originally established in 1978, The Insurers Inc. was a one-man store front proprietorship operating solely in Unionville, Ontario. As the York Region area grew dramatically throughout the Eighties, The Insurers kept pace. By 1990, The Insurers was servicing a customer base of 4,000 with annual premium volume of $4,000,000.
In 1990, two new principals took the helm. Christopher Mildon and Stephen Hale acquired The Insurers Inc. together with the Trivest Insurance Network. Their goal was to achieve and maintain superior performance especially in regard to customer service by introducing new levels of technology. The Insurers increased their ability to service their clients efficiently and increased operational efficiency. Sales and marketing gave The Insurers a greater presence in the York and Durham region and as a result, in a relatively short period of time, The Insurers grew to 11,000 clients and $12,000,000 in annual premium volume. Even more impressive was a legacy of enviable customer loyalty to The Insurers. As part of the fabric of York and Durham Region, The Insurers earned a reputation of which they can be rightly proud.
